A cannabis terpene with a spicy, peppery, woody aroma — the same compound that gives black pepper its characteristic bite. Caryophyllene is unique among terpenes because it also acts as a cannabinoid, binding directly to CB2 receptors in the immune system. Associated with anti-inflammatory and calming effects. Commonly found alongside humulene in cannabis strains.
